Christopher Bogiages joined KSTF in 2012 from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he was a high school biology and chemistry teacher for ten years. While teaching there, Chris sponsored an after school Biology Club that led to the founding of a Student Scientist Partnership (SSP) program between his students and local college professors. Over the five year life of the Partnership, several participating students won awards at the national and local levels for their research and have presented their research at local and national conferences and science fairs. Chris is also a National Board Certified Teacher and a Certified Candidate Support Provider and hopes to support those KSTF fellows who wish to complete National Board Certification during their fellowship.
Chris received his Bachelor’s in Biology and his Master's in Secondary Science Education from Coastal Carolina University. He is currently nearing completion of his Doctorate in Secondary Science Education from the University of South Carolina. Through his doctoral program, Chris has contributed to and led professional development institutes for both preservice and inservice science teachers focused on teaching through inquiry and model based teaching. His research interests include how in-service science teachers implement model-based teaching as well as the impact of student scientist partnerships on students’ choice of science as a profession.
Chris now lives in New Jersey with his wife Tina, his two children, Alyssa and Nicholas, and their dog, Samson. |
