The Knowles Conference series provides an opportunity for scholars in education, and experienced teachers and Knowles Research and Teaching Fellows to meet and discuss important topics in science and mathematics education. Our expectation is that each conference in the series will contribute a significant product to the fields of mathematics and science education research and practice. The first conference was held September 19-21, 2006, on the essential research for the preparation of secondary science teachers. The second conference on the essential research for the preparation of mathematics teachers was held May 28-30, 2008.
Inaugural Conference - September 19-21, 2006
Essential Research on the Preparation
of Secondary Science Teachers
The inaugural conference in the KSTF Conference Series was held with support of the Johnson Foundation on September 19-21 at the Wingspread Conference Facility in Racine, WI.
Second Conference - May 28-30, 2008
Essential Research on the Preparation
of Secondary Mathematics Teachers
The second conference in the KSTF Conference Series was help on May 28-30 at the Mathematical Association of America Carriage House facility in Washington, D.C. The conference was organized to address five themes along the teacher preparation continuum (preparation programs through induction) for high school mathematics teachers: content knowledge, technology, mentoring, equity issues, and instructional practices.
To facilitate these goals, KSTF invited a diverse group of researchers and practitioners to form working groups within the five themes of teacher preparation. The goals for the conference included developing an overview of what is currently known about critical problems for beginning high school mathematics teachers within each theme, and how we know that these are the critical problems. To facilitate these goals, KSTF invited a diverse group of researchers and practitioners to form working groups within the five themes of teacher preparation.
