IMPACT

KSTF has given me opportunities to meet and work with some of the best new and veteran teachers in the country. I’m not sure I could have survived my first year without it.

Leadership

KSTF leads the way in recruiting, preparing and retaining outstanding high school mathematics and science teachers who are leaders in their communities and the teaching profession. Over 155 Fellows strong, the KSTF teaching and research network today extends coast to coast across 40 states. The KSTF Teaching Fellows and alumni, who teach the highly complex disciplines of mathematics and physical and biological sciences, will impact nearly 20,000 students in the 2010-2011 academic year alone. The KSTF Research Fellows, engaged in critical research in education, prepare teachers at some of the nation’s top universities including University of California, Pennsylvania State University and Michigan State University.

Building on excellence

KSTF believes that teacher preparation requires a long-term investment. The five-year Teaching Fellowship and the two-year Research Fellowship ensure that Fellows continuously build on excellence and perfect their skills. Each Teaching Fellow spends close to 750 hours over five years in KSTF-sponsored professional development.  This level of support helps create a closely-knit community of professionals focused on improving their practice and engaging students with the tools to address 21st century challenges.

Widespread professional network

KSTF’s programs and practice are supported by a widespread network of prominent scientists, mathematicians and educators. From the initial, rigorous selection process to leadership grants for senior Fellows who are making an impact beyond their own classrooms to interactions between Teaching and Research Fellows, KSTF’s comprehensive approach ensures that KSTF Fellows become teacher leaders in science and mathematics.
